80 Hood?

My 80 has a hood that I always assumed wasn't original because the paint didn't match and it didn't have the plug in it to allow for filling of the power steering resivoir(sp). Am I correct in assuming that this is an R hood? Are the only differences between the R hood and the 80 hood the filler for the power steering or are there other differances that I should know about? Can I simply use a hole saw to cut the hole in it to make it more correct for the 80? Or is this a rare hood off one of the few non power steering 80's that I could sell for millions of dollars and retire on? LOL

Thanks for your help,

Alan

the jd R hood will fit a jd 80 the only difference will be the hole that you discovered and on the left hand side there is a notch out of the lower left hand side, for the pup motor transmission, if your hood fits properly then my guess is that possibly that jd had hoods made either for tractors without power steering or that your hood is notched on the lower left side and it came off of a "R"

Alan, according to my original parts book for 80-820 tractors, the hood was the same for all 80s and 820s, and they all had the hole and the plug for the power steering. No expert, but I think the R hood was different (PS never offered on R), as they have different part numbers. Someone could have possibly adapted an R hood to fit the 80. David
