Upon diassembly of the clutch from my 1958 420 W, I found that sleave M4215T is worn and loose to move within carrier M4374T. I assume that the parts should have a slight press fit. I plan to purchase a new sleeve, but use the existing worn carrier. Since I plan not to purhcase a new carrier, I must determine a method to lock sleeve into postion. What is the best method to fix the sleeve to carrier. Also, at what position should the sleeve be located relative to the carrier. I cannot find infor in my 420 manual and I do not have the 40 manual. As always, your solutions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks and Regards, Russ

Russ, the sleeve is supposed to be pressed into the housing itself and should be tight and not move with the carrier. The carrier slides on this sleeve. This is what breaks the fingers on the pressure plate when it moves forward while depressing the clutch pedal. A new sleeve probably will not fix it, likely the hole in the housing is worn. A fix for this is to tap the sleeve back into place and tack weld it in about 3 places. You can determine the exact location to drive it in by working the clutch linkage, the carrier should stop just at the end of the sleeve. I have bought those sleeves new before and still had to weld them in place, they are nothing more than a piece of exaust pipe.
