found an 8020 LP today while hitting the back roads.Had a ser# of 1T66725 . I couldn't find the ser# for a two wheel drive tractor over on the side here; so I was hoping some one here could help me with the year made and any bad points on this model. Tractor has been in a barn for quite a while . It needs all new rubber & seat but rest looks like mostly a clean up and paint job. I haven't a clue as to what to offer for it. I've found several tractors since I really started looking for one, but, didn't want to bale off into the dark about something I'm not familiar with. thanks in advance for annyy help

All RIGHT ALLRIGHT Hold everything!
I'll say it, You were right, I was wrong! (this sounds like a conversation with my wife) I just got back . Evidently I can't read. It was a 3020 NOT AN 8020. I took a flash light , pocket knife,emery cloth ,pencil & paper with me this time. Got to where I didn't have to stand on my head and could see right at the tag,cleaned it and here's what it had; 3020 LP 11T66725.The first 1 in the ser# is large the second 1 in the ser# is small. Still could use the year made, and I know a 3020 is a good tractor. While I was back there I brushed off the backend and this one has a fine spline PTO straight out the back AND a coarse spline PTO about 6" above & pointed out to the left towards the wheel . I know one is high rpm and the other is low ,but why out the side back there?

Your serial number, 3020 LP 11T66725 decodes as follows:

the 3020LP alone indicates that it was made in 1964. Starting in 1965, the sn would have read 112R68001R. For your 1964, the 11 means 1= 3000 seies 1= row crop
T= tractor
66725= serial number.(1964 range is 50,000-67,999)

Later tractors used three numbers in the prefix:
T=tractor
1=3000 series (2=4000 series, 3=5000 series)
1=row crop (2 = standard, 3= hi crop, etc)
2= LP (1= gas, 3=diesel)
R= syncrorange transmission (p= powershift)
68000 = serial number
R= Waterloo built

The fine spline is a 21 spline 1 3/8" 1000 rpm shaft, the other is the 6 spline 1 3/8" 540 rpm shaft. They are interchangeable and the one not in use is stored in the location you saw. It's a fairly simple job to swap them.

Paul:

Each stub shaft engages a different gear in the pto gear box (based on the shafts length and/or engagement diameter). That way, the 540 stubshaft only engages it's respective drive gear, and the 1000 RPM shaft engages only with it's gear.

It was a pretty neat concept for over 40 years ago, let alone now !

Paul, was it a articulating tractor? I think everything bigger than a 5020 was mid swivel. Look in the gallery at the 5020, 7020 and 7520. Could it have been a 3020 LP? They are pretty common and a great tractor.

Sounds like a "Red Rooster" or home brew propane power assist has been added to a diesel.

Some staionary generator applications add propane or natural gas to diesel engine air intakes to reduce fuel costs and limit particulate emmissions.

thanks JIM B; definitly an 8020 LP.at first passI thougt I'd found a 3020 with a green bucket sitting on the hood .I then stopped and looked closer to find it was an LP tank sticking up through the hood.Went around back to check the tag and,sure enough, it had 8020 LP on it! ser# was T66725 with a possible 1 in front of that but I really think that 1 was just a space on the tag . That tank is what looks strange ,it stands up vertically like a regular fuel tank but sure looks like a factory job to me. It was 5 pm, sun shining , birds singing ,and I wasn't drinking... yet. so I'm sure of the tag

JIM B,
KX has me doubting myself about the tag so Im going to go back this evening if I can to check it again, this is a little to screwy for me to be right about that #. After all an 8 and a 3 stamped, do look an awful lot alike. thanks
