After starting my 435 and warming it up for 3-4 minutes, the engine starts to die for 2-3 seconds (kind of like it is low on fuel) and then regains its power. It does this about once a minute after it has warmed up. I have checked the fuel for water and none has been found. This started happening after the tractor had to be split to work on the clutch. No fuel leaks have been found. Any suggestions on what to look for would be appreciated.

Bob, I'm not very knowledgeable on the 435. Glen has one & is probably your best source of info on the 435.
~You problem sounds like you might be getting some air entering the fuel system when it sits for a while, I have no idea where. Maybe Glen can shed some light on where air could enter the low pressure side. Did you take anything apart on the fuel system when you split the tractor?

The fuel lines were disconnected when the tractor was split There does not seem to be any leaking of fuel at the connections. Could air be leaking into the system and no fuel coming out. This started about a year ago, so it is not like it had a little air in the line.

Thanks for any help.

Bob, easily, air is thinner than diesel fuel & if an "O" ring is involved it could unseat under negative pressure & re-seat as pressure is applied.

Put a length of clear hose onat the line from the head returning back to the fuel tank. Any extra suds or foam occuring while the miss occurs will verify the air ingress problem. My guess is the fuel pump is sucking air through it's shaft seal or an inlet fitting. Any chance something is floating in the fuel tank and interupting flow?

Thanks, Clooney and Glen: I looked over the fuel lines and found where there was a fitting that could be snugged up a little. I did that and the pattern changed. I am going to take it apart and put some pipe tape on the fitting. Hopefully that will cure it. Thanks again.

Bob, NO pipe tape on the fitting. They should outlaw that stuff. Pieces can break off or get cut off on the sharp threads & plug the injection system.
~Use Teflon type pipe sealer or any good non-tape type sealer....

Clooney:

Thanks for the information about the tape. I won't be using it now. I will get some teflon type sealer.

Thanks again for the help

Anything binding the governor linkage? If it's out of adjustment the rpms will oscillate or hunt but that usually happens every few seconds. I have to get into my 435 too.At a show she began to intermittently slobber oil out from somewhere behind the governor shield and run out between the block and cam gear cast cover. Hope it's just the governor seal.
