I just got a 3040 which shows the following symptoms. When left idling for a short period when hot the hydraulics can lose pressure and not operate either steering or hydraulics until engine is revved up again. The filter has been changed and there is clean oil in the system.A previous owner had driven it with worn brakes and some filings went into the system.
I know that there is an internal pump which feeds the main pump,Could this be failing to do its job at low speeds?can a flow and pressure check be done on this pump?Could there be anything wrong the main pump?.The filter light comes on,Does this show that pressure is low or that the filter is clogged?

was screen cleaned when fluid was changed..you may also have internal leak ..crack in line..pto brake leaking..turn pto and see if it changes..leak in hi lo...shift to different hi.or low see if it changes...your front pump is your power steering pump along with the rest of hyds and if it can't get it ..it don't pump....have nice day may god bless

Reply to cannonball.I just noticed that the filter light goes out when I put the hi lo into low.Could leakage in the high ratio cause enough oil loss to prevent steering and hydraulics working at low rpm.It seems to operate ok at high rpm.Could operating it possibly harm the system.

yes u can have enought leakage in hi to make light come on ..your transmission fluid is supplied to pump from bottom of tractor,,the fluid id pulled thur screen..(u may have some trash there and cause this also)..pumped thur filter to pto..to hi lo...and then to front pump..so the front pump cannot pump if u have leakage inside tractor...if any question e-mail me and i will try to help..have nice day may god bless

TO Cannonball. There is a pressure test plug on the pipe coming from the header tank to the main pump.A local mechanic told me that that the pressure in this plug should read at least 7psi at all times when the system is charged up.If it drops to zero when tractor idles, does it mean the charging pump is weak or could dirt or grit in the relief valve cause it.The pressure goes up to about 10 psi when the engine is revved a bit. thankin you again.Dan Joe

Today I was talking to somebody who was servicing bale wrappers which have a big hydraulic demand to drive hydraulic motors. The machine would complete some of the task always failing at the same point. Can the front pump take oil from the header tank above the hydraulic pump.I was thinking it stopped when it had the reserve in this tank used up.Should the link arms operate smoothly at low rpm or is a slight jerking motion normal.Would the jerking motion mean that the system would be drawing air.
Thanks very much for taking the time to reply,it was very much appreciated.
