I am about to buy a 720 John Deere gas. The guy says it doesnt have power steering. I thought all 720's had power steering. He says that it has a 4 bar steering wheel and this makes it not have power steering. The 4 bar is suppose to be bigger and easier to turn. He said if it had power steering then it would of had a 3 bar steering wheel. Is he pulling my leg or is this true????

Any standard chassis 620 or 720 in the US is uncommom and a gas 720 uncommon anywhere. Only 45 gas standard 720 manual steer were built for cheapskates.

The serial number is 7214499. That would be a 720. He wants 1,800 for it. It doesnt run. Is this a good buy????

He is telling the truth. I see both manual steering and power steering parts in the 720/730 parts book, different steering wheels too. Power steering was always an option for all the Deeres, even the 30 series. Even the big boys--80, 820, 830!

Check the serial tag, it will designate the model tractor it is. Also the 3 pt ans hydraulics on the 20 series are completely different. If I'm not mistaken, the PTO engages with a foot lever close to the hand clutch. There all kinds of small things help you identify what your are looking at. Are the spark plugs in the head or block for example - 20 series were in the head.

Check the serial number, When the 20 series came out in 56, some 70 owners applied that yellow stripe to update their older tractors with the new John Deere look. But, I believe the 30 series all had standard equipped power steering.

Power steering was an option its possible. Make sure the serial ## starts out with 72### & not a 70!
