I would recommend taking your old mag to the nearest ditch and throwing it in. Then order a new delco distributor. Your tractor will idle better and run better. I changed my '48 B to a distributor and have never wanted to go back to the magneto.

Where do I get this new Delco distributor? How much? A few years back there were people selling NOS ones for the outrageous price of $369. What happened to the days of selling this old stuff for a reasonable price, getting it out of your way, and into the hands of someone who will put it to good use?

New Wico X magneto would cost $285.00 plus shipping. Rebuilt Wico X would cost $200.00 plus shipping.

i prefer the magneto (xh wico) it's got a coil, condenser and points like the distributor but dosen't depend on a storage battery for it's current (the engine will start and run without a storage battery) but if you still want to have a distributor then look to your left at photo ads, parts ($120.00 $10.00 shipping)and after that you will have to purchase a coil and you've got to get that right 6 or 12 volt pos or neg ground then you will need to make sure the points and condenser are 6 or 12 volt pos or neg ground i think then the bushings ( yes the magneto has bushings too) will need to be checked to see if they are worn and the automatic spark advance will need to be checked to make sure it operates. there are more things in and around the distributor that can be tampered with, which makes troubleshooting harder. it's harder to tamper with the magneto without the change being visually obvious!
