My father-in-law's 52 A is not idling smoothly. It has been doing good since he reworked the engine last year until gas poured out the carb. and he took it off to replace the float. It idles smoothly with the choke pulled out just a little but will bog down when on full throttle until the choke is opened fully. Did not have any carb cleaner to check for vacuum leak but I believe being unable to properly adjust idle mixture is keeping me from adjusting the load mixture as I have an occassional backfire in the exhaust. I checked the magneto timing and it appears good. A tune up wouldn't hurt but it was running great before. If the float is out of adjustment what does it need to be set at and where do you measure and is there anything else it might be? Any help is appreciated!

Frank, he didn't drop then forget to install the spring under the main nozzle did he? If so that will cause a problem.
~The easiest way to set the float is to just set the top of the float parallel with the bowl gasket flange.
~For initial needle settings use 2 turns out from seated on the idle & 1-1/4 turns out from seated on the load.....
