OK it's not overdrive, but behind the flywheel, there is a square box with a top mounted lever. If I put the tractor in neutral, and throw the lever in towards me, I have what feels like about a 20 mph gear. If I put it in low range, It does the same thing,, but a little slower. There is no MFG name on the box. Also, the tractor has to be in Neutral for this to work. you can't put it in a gear and throw the lever in. Won't move. It appears to be just a 5th and 6th gear or road gear. I was wondering if it is worth anything, ir should it hit the pile in the back? I know that it was on there for a while because the guy I bought the tractor from grew up on it, and said that it had been there as long as he could remember....Any help would be appreciated.....AC

AC.. sounds like a Behlen overdrive to me.. if your A is in good shape, DON'T TAKE IT OFF!! These tractors are kinda rare now days, although I've seen them around, try to find one when you want one! If you ever want to sell it let me know, I'll buy it! They're good for Sun. drives..

If the lever on the add-on gear box comes out the top and turns like the power take off lever you have a Heistler overdrive; If the lever comes out the rear of the box and tilts left, to engage. It is a Behlen overdrive. Why do you want to take it off your A? To remove it you will have to replace the top sliding gear shaft and the bottom countershaft with original style transmision shafts because the overdrive shafts protrude a couple inches out from the main case. (a lot of work). You might be able to get $75 for your old setup, but the new shafts and bearings and cover to replace it are going to cost more than that.

AC----Usually the overdrive units where installed when the steal cleats or wheels where taken off and rubber tires put on----to gain road speed..
