what should the timing be set on a B 1948 with delco dist? Have timing light. There is a dot on flywheel cover, bottom of center cover and dot on flywheel. Is this correct marks?

If I remember right, those marks align at top dead center which is were the impulse on the magneto is supposed to snap. This is not the running timing of the engine. I just lost my reference books to a fire but if I recall correctly, the lag angle on the magneto is 25. This makes the running timing of the engine 25 before top dead center. When I put one of those Delco distributors on my 1950 B, I used a advance timing light to set the running timing at full throttle to 25. Then at idle the timing was less. With the advance timing light and the distributor turning at engine crankshaft speed there was a built in error as compared to a distributor running at half crankshaft speed as in most other engines. Difficult to explain. Anyway, with the advacne timing light, it showed full throttle timing at 50 even though actual engine timing was only 25. Got that? Gosh, hope I remembered this correctly. It's been a while since I've messed with it.

the dent in cover aligns with the hole in the flywheel, there are two on the outer center. This will be on top dead center. Timing is TDC and the distributor weights give it 20 degrees advance at high idle.
