Did any John Deere '38 unstlyled A's have the letter "A" up on the side of the sheet metal? Or just on the seat bracket?

Thanks

The round ":Black Ball" model designator arrived at exactly the same time as the late styled tractors---1947. Only tractors with battery box seats had it.

Unfortunately, Deere provided a "generic" replacement decal kit which ostensibly could be used for all of the 1939-52 models, but failed to provide any explanation as to which decals were used on what tractors. Then, "El Cheepo" decal suppliers just copied the incorrect kit supplied by JD. Eventually EVERYONE began to think that their tractor needed to have that little indicator on the side of the hood---even owners of unstyled tractors. Some of them even put the correct model designator (which SHOULD have gone on the seat support) on the hood.

Personally, I am considering doing the research and attempting to write a book or pamphlet on just this subject of decals, what's correct, and where do they go. There just doesn't seem to be any sort of reliable, all in one place source for this information. You have to really dig to find out, and the reprinted JD parts books are no help either.

Just on the seat bracket. Not on the hood.

A '38 that I know of has the A on the side, but I'm not certain that it is original. The late 38's also had the fuel lever rod for changing the fuel selection from the seat, just like the one on the styled tractors.
