I have a 1980 510 JD round baler, when the bale is almost the right size, it snaps a belt, does anyone know why?

I agree with the previous post about the belt may be too short due to repairs and also age will play a major roll. I do custom hay baling around the Sherman, Texas area and run a 530 Deere baler, different style belts but I have had two come completely out of the baler. I think alot of people have problems by having thier pressure cranked down too tight and putting excess stress on the belts.

Two things come to mind, 22 year old belts, and/ or splicings that have reduced the overall length of the belts to the point they are too short top allow the bale to grow to full size. If you have a manual check for the proper length of the belts, and inspect the belts for cracking, dry rot etc. Baler belts are just like the fan belts on your truck, they wear out and break,or slip.
