My 3020 ps diesel sometimes will not start unless I jam the shifter back and forth from neutral to park. It will start in gear at times, also. Any help in fixing the problem is appreciated.

Wade,if it is a powershift it should have two safety switches. One on right side of trans.the other should be on valve at clutch.Other post was correct in telling you to remove shim because ball in end of switch and activater in trans.can wear. That is why moving gear selector can make it start sometimes.Jim

On the right hand of the transmission by the shifter arms there is a neutral start switch with two wires on it. Remove the switch and see if there are any aluminum shims under it. If there are any shims remove them and screw the neutral start switch back in. Reconnect the wires. Put the tractor in PARK and try to start the unit while in the operators' seat. If it will still not crank then there is a wiring problem or the top shifter shaft has too much end play and it will have to be adjusted.

Gord- The safety switch on the trans has been bypassed with a jumper wire. Thus, the "safety switch" should ALWAYS work, correct? I will fix this "modification", but it doesn't solve the problem. Can you help?
