I'm wondering how the two compare far as hp , hyd power etc. I think the 2640 has more hp according to Neb tests but how do they do on torque etc . It will be used as a utility tractor loader mainly , no tillage and so on but I'm just wondering what your thoughts are . The one I'm considering has a 146 loader on it and the reverser . Presently I have a 2020 with a 146 loader and it is too slow acting , how much better is the 2640? Thanks in advance for any and all replies . Jim

A late 3020D with 148 loader will eat a 2640. Do you like to stradle the trans and cook your legs? Reversers are repair prone. Tough loader work 3020 in 3rd to 1st rev. easy work 5th to 2nd rev. Wish to mow on a hot day the 2640 has a 1/2 width radiator and will overheat. 3020 has taller tires and will develope more traction for loader work. In five years which will increase in value, the late 20 series.

Don't forget one of the most important factors....weight = traction. It doesn't matter how much torque or HP you got if all you do is sit and spin. And loader tractors are notorious for getting "stuck" when you are pointed down hill and you try to back up with a load in the bucket. If you don't have a lot of weight on the rear axle or have front assist, you will just sit and spin. I've heard the the 40 series had more weight than the 30 series, but don't know how they compare with the 20 series. Remember the 3020 was designed as a field tractor...meant to pull tillage equipment. The 2640 was not designed for this. It was meant for light utility work and typically got loaders on them (or pulled bush hogs). From a durability standpoint I would classify the 2640 in same class as 2020 (3020 as being tougher). Course this is all just opinion. The 2640 should have improved hydraulics (higher pressures and probably more volume) over either the 2020 or the 3020 (I believe some 2020s probably had same pump as 3020). The 3020 had about 2200 psi (you could turn it up...but then watch your lines leak and your HP drop) and flowed at 18 GPM.
