Does anyone know if they used the same Deisel 4020 engine in any John Deere Combines?

Thanks

Deere has been known to omit the tapped holes in the front of the block where the tractor hydraulic pump attaches when the engine is built for combine use. I suspect that probably applies more to newer engines, but if you're buying a combine engine to replace a tractor engine, be sure it has the holes, as it would be next to impossible to drill and tap them accurately.

Yes, they used the 404 engine in the 105 and 7700 combine. It's just about the same as the 4020 but it has a spin on oil filter. I know of people that put a used 105 or 7700 engine in a 4020

Yes the 404 engine was used in combines. If you want to swap one into a tractor you will have to change oil pans and possibly some accessories. Some of the combine engines have thinner castings than the tractor blocks do, so bear this in mind if the 4020 is going to be used for loader work. The engine block adds to the structural integrity of the tractor.

I thought the oil filter was in a different
position also, saw one in a 4020 the oil filter
pointed back, and the side panel wouldn't work.
Saw a 4020 with a 4440 engine a few weeks ago.

If you saw a 4020 with the oil filter pointing back on the side of the block it was not a 4020 original engine as the oil filter on the 2 I have had and also the 3020 I have and any other 4020 I have ever seen is in the oil pan and has 4 nuts hholding the cover on. This may or may not be new news but just thought I would put something into the conversation.
