A friend of mine has a 4630 and the engine will make a knocking noise only at just above PTO speed. I forget what the engine is running at when its at PTO speed but its like 200 RPM's above PTO speed it will knock really loudly and when you get above that its fine. It sounds completely normal below and above that speed and performance is not affected. I know he has the engine turned up a bit but I wouldnt think that that would cause that. I know that them 404's are puttin out enough hp already for their size and then to turn it up some more seems to be asking a lot of an engine that size.

I believe Walt is right. It seems to be a common problem with the bushings in the front pump coupler. My 4020 sounded like it was about to throw a rod. The parts cost $7.50. If you have not replaced the alternator belt in a while it would be a good time to do it while you have the coupling off. Note that the bolts are threaded into the other half of the coupling and have a lock nut.

Best regards,
Gary Brady

Something to check for would be the hydraulic pump coupling at the front of the motor I have hade them come loose or maybe the rubber bushing have worn out.
