JD 1010 RU on ebay

I've done a bit of research before asking. I've searched the archives of this site and I get the impression that most of you don't like the 1010, especially the engine.
However, consider the 1010 in the ebay link below.
This guy is only about 15 miles from me. We already know from the ad that the head gasket may be bad. Is that a "stay away" type of problem? Or can I just pull the head put on a new gasket and be ok?
His price seems to be low. No one has bid so maybe his real price might be closer to $1,000. How would you guys feel about that tractor for $1,000?
What about the missing sheet metal? Can I find replacement sheet metal?

Any other comments would be appreciated.

I think the price you are willing to pay should depend on what you are going to do with it. I bought a 1010RU a few years ago for $2250. For my purposes it works well. If I was into heavy farming I might have a different opinion. As far as finding sheet metal, Dennis Polk in Indiana has some 1010's in salvage. Might cost you more than you would like to pay but there are a lot of other places salvaging J-D's also. Three biggest problems I have had with mine is that the hydraulics do creep down and then pop back up. The brakes were a real problem but I just finished rebuilding them. Brake shaft seals were the most serious (but cheap) part. The discs were $60 each and it takes four. Still haven't figured out how to make my engine run the way it should. I can only get 1800 RPM out of it even though the tach allows 2800. Would I pay that much again for the same tractor? Sure would.

To be honest, I have no real use for the tractor. I just like to tinker with them. I have a hankering for a utility type tractor with live power/hydraulic and 30ish type hp. The 1010 is one that I've considered ever since I saw how nice the raffle tractor was at our local show a few years back.
I will use the tractor for moving snow, pulling hayride, and anything else (goofing off) that comes up.
