William, if all at once it began running on just one cylinder as you said, my first suspicion is that one plug fouled out due possibly to oil residue build up. I would inspect the plugs first and swap or simply replace them with Autolite 388 and try her. As clooney sugested, it may need a regular tune up or at least inspection of points, condensor and wires plus a fuel system flow check. The all at once loss of one cylinder though, sure sounds like that plug is fouled. PS The tractor was originally equipped as positive ground, so if yours is negative ground, the coils - lead is the one that should be connected to the distributor, with + getting power from the switch. Good luck Ol John T Nordhoff in Indiana

If by chance you are going to rewire the "B", make sure you order the correct coil. I beleive yours came with a 6 volt coil from JD. If you order one from them again, as I found out, it will be factory fresh 6 volt, which will lead to all kinds of more problems. If you stay with 12 volts, get a 12 volt coil and wire it as the manual shows, positive ground. You will need to put a resistor in line with the points, available at NAPA so you don't burn them up to soon, more expirence learned the expensive way. Lyle

William, start with the basics; ~Make sure it has a good blue spark on both cylinders that will jump a 1/4" gap. [probably wouldnt hurt to replace the points & condenser either]
~If the plug wires are old, check them for cracks & wear, or just replace them.
~Make sure it has good fuel flow to & through the carb, [open the carb drain cock & make sure you have a pencil sized stream of fuel for at least 30 seconds].
~Make sure the fuel shut-off isn't partially closed [it happens].
~If all ok per above, install a new set of spark plugs to see if that helps.
~If none of the above helps, give it a compression test & pull the valve cover to make sure the valves aren't tight & are opening all the way.
