Ed, I hot tank everything I restore, does the best job of anything I've tried. Take your time and a couple of small sharp chisles and spin the rivets out of your tag, it will eat it. I have an extra hot tank for sale if anyone is entrested.

ed,

My experience with hot tanking is that most everything that's not over .25 inches thick will be gone afterwards. Unless you've had a small explosion inside the block that left lots of shrapnel, I wouldn't do it. If you must hot tank, study up on how to pull the tag before and rivet it back on later.

Might be better to rent, borrow or beg one of those deep tank recirculating parts washers and spend an hour or two spraying that solution in every nook and cranny of the block you can reach. It will do a good job, and won't hurt the tag at all.
