In years pasted, I have had both the 5 and the 8. Have two 350's now. Without going into what machanial part one had that the other one didn't Both use the same mounting brackets. The 8 replaced the 5 about 1956 or so. The 5 frame was such the the tractors rear wheel tread could be set for culivating two 40" rows without running over uncut hay. The 8 frame was for narrow tread tractor spaceing. They did also have a 8W for wide tread tractors. The 8 was replaced with the 38, 38W and that is where more changes were made. If I remamber right the 5 was hand lift, cable lift or Hyd cyl lift, where as the 8 was just Hyd cyl. Both were good mowers for they day lift. They all kick back when they hit something, but the trouble with both was the safety was a broken pitman stick. Where the 350 the safety is to spin a belt. And the 350 can be set to eather wide or narrow tread tractors by changeing some bolts.

Both the 8 and 38 mowers also had the hand lift or cable lift option. I have manuals for all of them and it shows those options in the books.
