Hello,
I got no spark at all on my Wico series A magneto, the coil smells burned so i replaced it with an new one and also the condenser. Now it sparks two or three times and then no more. When i wait for 5 min. and give it a try again it sparks back for 2 - 3 times and it's over. I tested it with spark wire directly in coil over, so problem could not be in distributor gap or bad rotor.
I've checked coil wires and do not see anything wrong.
could the problem be that metal lip which gives contact to the coil in the coil cover? It seems to be OK for me.
Thanks for your help.

Luc, do you mean a Wico model "C"? If so, Yes; that contact clip will cause the very problem you are experiencing. Make sure that clip isn't bent & away from the coil contact button. I know it is hard to see but re-bend it so it touches the button [use lipstick on the button to check for contact [your choice of color].
~Open a spark plug gap to about 6-7 millimeters & install in a plug wire then lay it on the block, then turn the engine over, you should get a blue spark that will jump that plug many times in a row.

Clooney,
Thanks for your reply. It is really a Wico series A magneto(i know the C series they are on most JD's)
It works now, don't know what the problem was, the only thing i've done on it was blocking the coil with a small part of wood between coil and coil holder.
anyway thanks for your help and have a nice day.
