Okay, I have no idea what happend here but I was trying to hook up a couple extra lights on the roll bar tonight and 'something' happened and the whole tractor is dead. I saw nothing short out, or smelled anything funny, the thing just went dead. No dash lights -nothing. I have juice to my starter and alternator, and to the little relay looking thing mounted high just behind the dash. I ran the wire for the new lights right down the side of the roll bar and through the grommet in the fender, then spliced into the headlight lead so the new lights would come on with the stock lights. I turned it on to see if everything worked and the whole thing is dead now. Ground looks good and hot wire to stater reads 12v at the starter. also have 12 v at the alternator. Fuses look good also. I'm stumped. Any advice or anything help would be really appreciated! Can't for the life of me think of what might of happened. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for all the help, Looks like it was just a fluke. I found that the contacts on the switch were in pretty bad shape. Some corosion, lots of grime. Took everything apart and clean the contacts good, reassembled and she took right off!
I'm chalking it up to coincidence. The new lights work fine as well!
Thanks again! I appreciate all the help.

Guy:

I don't have my manual at hand, but is there a circuit breaker under the dash as well as fuses ?

If it's one of those constant draw breakers, when they experience a high-current situation (short)they draw current to heat the coil, and keep it heated until the short goes away.

Try this. Turn everything off. Remove the hot cable from the battery and put a 12V lamp in series. If it lights, then there is a switch-off current draw somewhere, and you'll have to track it down. If the lamp does not light, you have an open, and the is from an open fuse, bad connection (shake the connector on the back of the ignition switch), or somewhere else. BTW, the 12V to the starter and BAT lead to the alternator are hot all the time.

Do you have any lights on the dash ? If not, I think you might have an open circuit breaker under there.

Caveat:

I'm guessing without my book in front of me.

Guy: I have one of these, it's a great little tractor. Clooney gave you good advise, check the fuses, don't just look at them, take them out and check them. The top two fuses will be the ones to look at, one of them feeds the starter solenoid, I think it is the top one. If that does not cure the problem, look for something simple, like maybe the pto accidently got engaged. Good luck.

Thanks, I REALLY hope it's something simple. I did check all the fuses this morning with an ohm meter and they check fine. Like I said, this is really strange since nothing shorted that I know of, everything just went dead. I am not really what you would call a 'backyard' electrician either, I have a pretty solid understanding of electricity and am pretty careful. I have no idea what happened, has to be something simple that I am just over looking, I'm just not seeing it and I'm getting very frustrated. UGH

Guy, pull ALL the fuses & test them, just because they look good doesn't mean they are....
