After a 25 year rest, my 48 A is about ready to pop again! I'm pretty excited as it's been about 3 years since I started tearing it down. I don't have any of the sheet metal done yet, so I don't have the hood or gas tank on. What's the best way to set up a temporary gas supply so I can at least get it started and run for a few minutes?

Any other advice before I give it a pop ???

Mike, on my '51 A I used the large bolt under the rear of the gas tank to attach a piece of flat iron bent so it would hold an old lawnmower tank off to the side a little. The tank I have came off one of my father-in-law's old riding mowers. This set-up works great just like F.I.T. said. Good luck with your A!

I took a 1 gallon metal can and brazed me a fitting on the top and cut me a hole in the bottom and clamped it to the steering post and run a line to the carb. Works fine and inexpensive to make . I got one ready to do the same thing on.

Mike O:

I keep on old plastic lawn mower tank handy for just such occassions. It even has an in-line filter. At around one quart, it will let you give her several minutes of run time, and if you tip it over, you don't lose all that much.
