Hello, I have a quick question. I have a 620 john deere and i park it in a garage. The muffler is too short. It is one of those oval bodied muffler. I checked at a few places, but everyone only sells replacement mufflers, not shorter ones. I need the muffler to be about 3 to 4 inches shorter than stock. There isn't enough pipe sticking out above the muffler to cut enough off. And, it has a square 4 bolt flange/base that bolts to the tractor, so I can't just clamp on a regular muffler. Can you buy just the flange somewhere and then weld it to another muffler or something like that? Thanks for your help. I appreciate it a lot. Andrew R.

Unless you want to keep everything looking original, here's what I did on my 60. Had the same problem. Cut the top of the oval muffler (approx. 2 in.). Replaced the front 600x16 wheels with 15" wheels from a JD 953 wagon and put low profile tire on. Clears the garage by about 1/2 inch.

I have found that everytime I shorten a muffler the exhaust will be forced out below the mounting flange of the muffler.

Check at your JD dealer and ask for specs on a muffler for a styled AR they are shorter, I don't know if it would be enough.

The factory did make a exhaust that went out of the manifold then down and out the back. You may be able to find a picture and pattern one after that.

I worked for a dairy famer who had a 620G with a loader who wanted to use it to clean out the bank barn and he found the exhaust that comes out the manifold, goes down and back and ends under the rear axle. I seem to remember that the muffler was either under the block or nonexistent.
