The float stuck on my newly acquired H. Filled the cylinders before I could get it off the trailer. What an introduction to two-cylinder tractors. What weight oil should be used in the crankcase? Any recomendations on brands of oil? A new oil filter will be my first parts purchase. Any tips on finding the parts. I have a parts manual.

I look forward to the day when I can submit a picture of my completed project. Thanks in advance for all the help over the next 1 to 2 years.

Mike,
I have had the same experience with my H. I now always shut of the fuel to all my tractors when I shut them off. I have used Quaker State 10W-40 since 1973. I overhauled my H in 1974 and recently restored it. I checked rod bearings, crankshaft, cylinder @ ring wear, etc. I could only find .0002" wear on the crank, .0005" wear on the rod bearings, and less than .001" on the cylinders. This tractor was used very hard for the first 15 years I owned it. To find this slight amount of engine wear sure made believer out of me! There are other good oils out there, but wanted to share my experience.

I use 30 wieght in all my tractors. You can chose any brand you want. I try to stick to good name brands like penzoil, citgo..ect. NAPA has most of the filters for the two cylinder JD's and there not hard to find on the internet. I always try to remember to shut off the fuel and let the tractor stall. Good luck on the restoration!!
