4440 hydraulics question

Started moving round bales and the hydraulics were working fine. Hot outside, about 100 F, and after 10 minutes the loader started losing power.

Would lift a bale with higher rpm's, but even that deteriorated after a few minutes. Now Loader won't lift at all.

Plenty of fluid and it looks fine. Could the filter be problem...? ideas?

Have you checked your loader clinders for internal leaks past the piston? If it is a double acting cylinder and the piston seals are blown, the rod area sq in becomes the effective piston. When you attemp to raise the loader, if the seals are gone, oil goes in one end and out the other back to the valve.
Let the loader cool down, the next morning, attempt to raise the loader and hold the lever engaged. Feel around the hyd cyl barrels where the pistons might be to find a warm spot. If one is found, the piston packing is shot. Do not place your hand on areas where oil is leaking externally as it will be injected into your skin. If it is injected, go to the doctor immeaditally as you can lose a hand to amputation if you wait any time at all. It is nothing to fool with.

It is more then likely the stroke control valve they get a bit of anything in the valve and it will not let the pump go into full pressure mode. Has happened to my tractor twice. Find the stroke valve it should be on top front of main pump under fuel tank should have a T handle but it may be 1/2 bolt head just look for some threads showing under the head. While the tractor is running turn the valve in then out this may need to be repeated but usaully solves the problem.

there is a possibility i suppose that the filter is the problem,but i doubt it.have you cleaned the pump screen ? since hot fluid is thinner than cold fluid,i would guess that the problem could be in the trans hyd pump,but you could have a leak in one of the remote valves.i have even seen the loss of hydraulics caused by leaking O rings in the trans.you might shift the quad two speed from one to the other to see if pressure changes.touch each remote valve to see if one is hot,this will indicate a leak.how does the steering react when you loose hydraulics,the first 1600 or so psi goes to steering,brakes and clutch
