My friend is considering buying a 2120 from a trader or a 2510 from local farmer . 2120 is not slick, asking 4500(diesel). the 2510 is pretty nice wfront, diesel, low hours(l800 showing, only point showing wear is hole in drawbar. Lift arms are tight, seat pretty tight all wear points in good shape. price on 2510 is 6500. Which would you recommend . Been told 2510 was not a good tractor.Realize it has 2020motor, which it thought was good. Need info on these two.

If you are in the United States, be advised that the 2120 is not a "US" version of that tractor. I think it is a Mannheim Germany built version of the 2020, sold in Canada instead of the Dubuque Iowa built 2020. The 2120 would be much harder to take to a United States dealer and find that they knew anything about it, had parts books to cover it, or could get parts for it. There are some examples of this tractor which have made it across the border, but they weren't intended for sale here. If you are in Canada, both tractors would have similar power---the engine specs should be nearly the same, and you have to ask "Do I want a UTILITY tractor (2120) or a ROWCROP tractor (2510)?" The major difference between them is the chassis. ( I would GREATLY prefer ANYTHING built in Waterloo to ANYthing built in either Dubuque OR Mannheim!.JMHO)

I agree with the other posts. The 2510 is a great tractor for that size. I was told not to buy my 2510 because of the Rollo-matic frontend and Synchro transmission, but they haven't given my any trouble. The only flaw so far is when you stall it, you lose your breaks. Done it twice in this summer and rode it out both times.

I paid $6,500 for mine which just had the engine rebuilt and I would buy it again if I had to choose again.

Anyone who has told you that the 2510 is a poor tractor is sadly mistaken. Mine has never let me down.....good all around utility tractor...especially with the loader. Do not be afraid of this tractor, just a mini 4020 ...and we all know how popular and reliable they are.

I 'd buy the 2510 hands down. They are an excellent tractor. I have one and have had very good luck with it.The 2510 is basically a early 3020 chassis with the 2020 engine. The 2520 is basically the late 3020 chassis with the 2030 engine. There's no relationship from the 2010 series tractors, which are a poor machine, to the 2510/2520. The 2020 engine is a vast improvement over the engine series found in the 3010/3020 4 cylinder models. Of the 7 or 8 John Deere tractors I own, the 2510 would probably be the last one I'd ever get rid of! That includes the newer ones too!
