I have a 46 B that is squirting antifreeze from the inside exhaust manifold bolt. I would appreciate comments on what I will be dealing with to repair the problem.

This B also fouls the sparkplug on the flywheel side. Any correlation to the antifreeze problem?

Thanks for any input,

Tom

Tom, the exhaust manifold stud/bolt holes are drilled into the head coolant area [that is why the original studs use a slightly larger bottom thread diameter to fit tighter].
~You can drain the cooling system down & clean the antifreeze from the bolt & head threads then use a HIGH TEMP sealer on the bolt threads, or remove the antifreeze & use plain water for a few weeks & the leak will probably seal itself up in time, then reinstall the antifreeze.
~On the plug fouling; depends of what it is fouling from [fuel or oil], probably just using a hotter plug or hotter plug & 2 plug gaskets under the plug will go a long ways towards eliminating the fouling problem. If it is fuel fouling, maybe just a leaner carb adjustment will do the trick....

Tom, you say manifold bolt, when new it came with studs(easier to keep sealed). I use bolts for convenience but seal them up good while there is no coolant in the threads. One problem with bolts, if they are even a little to long they could perferate the pushrod tubes in the head and cause an internal coolant leak. George

I think you have two problems. The threads around the stud are probably bad, a little perm-a-tex copper could fix it. The fouling plug is probably oil, an indication of rings, try gapping that plug a little more and see if it helps.

well it could be a simple fix such as sealing off the bolt or it could be a leaking gasket.
