Well, I have gone over the carb several times, and still it will not run right. From slow idle to mid throttle it is ok, then after that it backfires and bangs really loud. I have set the timing, new plugs and all new dist. parts, good spark etc. I am getting good fuel flow and everything seems good, but it isnt. I have cleaned all the passages that I can find. Float is set to 1/2 inch, I get a good 25 sec of pencil sized fuel flow out of the drain. I do not know what else to do. Anyone know who could check it out pretty quick, I have used Roberts, but I cant afford to wait 12 weeks. Any ideas?? thanks

R-man, assuming you have a good ignition system that isn't failing at high load, higher RPM your problem is probably in the load circuit.
~Look real closely around the bottom of the main well to see if there is a small extra hole for load fuel supply [not all have it & I can't remember if the 72 does or not]. If you have one it could be rusted shut.
~Do you have the correct main nozzle for your 72? I believe it is supposed to be a 47-310 for the all-fuel DLTX 72. It won't be marked & you will have to match it against a picture chart [I will send you one if you send me your E-Mail address]. ~Remove the fuel drain from the bottom of the float bowl & install a barbed fitting, then install a clear plastic hose on the fitting & run it beside the carb bowl & wire it's open end above the carb [leave the top open]. Run the tractor & watch the fuel level in the hose, it should be about 3/4" below the bowl gasket, if it isn't find out why, [plugged bowl vent or fuel supply problem].
~Try setting the idle needle at 2 turns open from seated & the load needle at 1 turn open from seated & see if it runs there [that is a good place to start].
~Try running the tractor with the air inlet tube disconnected to see if you have a plugged air cleaner.
~What color smoke is coming out the stack when the engine is missing?
~Does running with the choke partially on help?
