My brother TOTALLY RESTORED a 1944 jd-"B". After running the engine for about ten minutes, oil started to drip out of the magneto/dist. cap. Any ideas what might be wrong??? Every nut and bolt of this thing was apart and renewed so its kinda got us puzzeled. The mag is off now and he's looking at a seal in the mag itself, but how much oil if any is supposed to be behind it??? Thanks for your help in advance!!!!! !!!! 770.

Good answer clooney! While rebuilding my 50 a mudd dauber built a nest in the drain hole in the govenor housing. This would probably cause the problem you are talking about in a B. I caught the dirty dauber before installing the distributor.

770, without knowing what brand & type of mag he is using it's hard to tell.
~Is the drain hole open in the governor case between the governor R/H bearing & mag?
~Depending on the mag type, he could also have a bad seal in the mag.
~Is the oil engine oil, or could he have over oiled the mag when assembling & the oil is added oil.
~The mag gets a fair amount of oil behind it but that oil should run back through the drain back hole.
