Iam looking for a new choke cable for the '47 BR that I am working on. No I don't want a universal replacement type --anyone no of a good source? Also I was doing the lighting/charging repair on the same tractor. When the light switch is in the off position current should go through the resistor to the field terminalcorrect? Then in low charge it by-passes the resistor correct? If I am right in my theory I may need a new light switch as well--anyone know a source for this as well? All help greatly appreciated.

Bob, can't help you on the cable.
~On the light switch, you're close. No current flows [TO] the field from the light switch. The field is powered internally from either the armature post or 3rd brush [depending on the generator type, your system should have the 3rd brush type] & the field is [GROUNDED] at the light switch to energize the field. "Lights off" it is grounded through the light switch resistor & "lights on", the resistor is by-passed & the field is grounded directly. ~To test the light switch, remove the field wire from the [F] post at the generator & install a headlight [same voltage as tractor battery] between the removed field wire & [BAT] terminal on the cut-out relay [or battery non-grounded post], the light should light, [dimmer with the light switch off & bright with the light switch on]. If the light doesn't light, look for an open at the light switch or an open in the field wire, if it doesn't dim with the light switch in the off position try using two headlights in parallel [maybe one light isn't enough load] or the resistor has a short to ground.

Thank you Clooney. Iam printing your message off so I can do the test as you said. I certainly appreciate your help, especially if I don't have to buy another switch. (We went over budget about 4 years ago.)
