I just got back from the John Deere Auction in St. Peter, IL. Holy Cow! It makes me feel like I'm worth more money! Auction was by Aumann Auctions, they did a great job, very well organized and honest about anything that was wrong with the tractors. Most were pretty nice older restorations, not Expo quality, but nice. Here's some prices, sorry I didn't get all:

Waterloo Boy N - $52,000
330 Utility - $21,000
330 Standard - 20,000
Unstyled L - $7,000
Unstyled G - $8,500
320 $9,300
430 wide front - $7,500
420 wide front - $6,250
420 tricycle - $5,500
630 - $6,000
520 - $5,500
BN - $6,500
60 $4,500
a 3 point hitch brought $1,000

can someone tell me why those prices were so high (the two 330s), did someone really need them that bad? were they bought as an investment, if so then that would mean someone else would be willing to pay even more? mabey sombody famous owned them? sentimental reasons? if i were offered a 330 or a 1944 hand crank row crop A, both in near origional like new condition for free, i'd take the A cause if i took the 330 with my luck (i'm not a wheeler dealer)popularity trends would change and i would be left holding the 330 and wishing i had the A. have you ever met anyone who said "i sure could use one of those 330s" or "i've always wanted one of them" other than the fact that they could unload one to someone else for a sure profit????? ????it's a free country and a man/woman can do what they want with their money----- --right----- -

Maybe the old saying "a fool and his money are soon parted" applies. People get carried away at auctions. You could advertise the 330's for less than what they bought at the auction and no one would even call..... ....

330's are selling so high because only 1091 units were produced; 252 of them were utility models, the rest standard. The price difference between the 330 & 430 was so small most buyers opted for the 430 with more h.p., hence the market for collectible 330's now... we'll see what they bring in a few years, but if you had to sell one now you would probably lose money.. most buyers at collectible auctions bid on emotion, not common sense.. at a standard farm auction most bidders know what value to place on used equipment and bid accordingly..

A nice original 330 S sold in Kentucky a couple
months ago for $8800.A jocky in Iowa recently
has a nice original in Geen Magazine for $12500.
You can't tell about collector auctions,but that's
were everybody sets their price from. Not many
of them were built, but I see a lot of them for
sale,probably know of 5 myself.I'm sure their
prices just went up this weekend.

The comments of JD Guy in Ne are well taken. Also Aumman Auctions has the power to draw the premier collectors. There was a large Jd sale here in Oxford PA that Aumann did and people still talk about those prices. He advertises heavily nationally. At this sale in Pa as I stood in a line for refreshments the guy in back of me was from Florida and flew in to see if he could use anything. Another guy in line was from the Midwest and he said he and a buddy were just at another sale somewhere distant and had just trailered home a couple buys. Some of these collectors are really in the big leagues.
