While flipping thru the pages of the John Deere service manual for my 1944 B I found a photo showing the front lug nuts just like the ones on mine with a "90" right in the center of the lug nut. Page 160-5-3 Figure 160-5-11 the photo is very light but I can make out a "90" in the center of the stud. I guess John Deere's supplier sold a lot of these to many different companies. I'm trying to restore mine to as near original as possible. Researching is part of the fun in restoration.

44 Styled B, thanks for the follow up.. I know a lot of my 2-cylinder's have those bolts on them.

~And thanks to Duane we know Deere didn't use those numbers as a toque value.

~I doubt Deere made their own lug bolts so they probably came from a bolt supplier.. Those numbers were probably used on one of the other users of those bolts.

44 Styled B,
Nice piece of detective work! Various Field Service Bulletins all give values of 60 ft-lbs for front wheel bolt torques, and 100 ft-lbs for rear pressed steel wheels. So, the 90 must be a manufacturer's stamp rather than the tightening torque.

If you have reversible front wheels (JD1262, after B153376) the bolt part number is JD19R (mfg # 31940), and non-reversible front wheels used bolt JD17R (mfg # 05163, indented head). But again there is no reference to 90. So, I guess it remains a mystery (to me, at least).
