Our 3020 hydraulic pump is leaking heavly in the front. Looks like between the body and "end cap". I assume there is a gasket or O'Ring seal bad? Is it possible to service this seal in the tractor or will the pump need to be removed? Thanks! Rick

Had a fire on my 64 model 3020 back in 99. Poor old thing looked pretty pityfull! My mistake for trying to do a makeshift repair to fix broken side rails to get to the house. Anyway during the procedure to get the ole girl going again, I did pull the pump and put at least part of the new kit in it. I had most everything off of the top side so I pulled the pump from above. She looked like a hot rod with the top end parts off. 5 weeks later, cranked her up adn drove her out of the shop and went back to baling hay with it. I jus think in my opinion that removeing it from the top is the safest way, may be more work in taking more off but at least you don't disturb your front end parts and you don't have to use any stands or supports, it will be more work though. Just my .02 worth.

If it was mine, I'd try to find out where the leak's at before I commenced to removing the pump. It could be coming from around one of the eight piston plugs. Several are accessible from below (wide front) on the 4020, and I think it's about the same on your tractor. If you find one leaking, simply remove it, replace the O-ring and snug it back up. If the piston falls out it's no big deal. Put it back in.

If everything looks OK from below, remove the fuel tank to get a look at the top half of the pump. You may have to run the engine to see the leak. On one occasion, my 4020 was leaking, No...pouring, from the fitting on the pressure outlet. Fix: Snugged it up. But it couldn't be got to w/o removing the fuel tank.

My 3020 pump developed a hairline crack in the pump body itself; rebuilt pump fixed it ($$$) tho'. Be careful when taking it out or putting it back in, that pump is heavy.

The pump has to come out to fix this right. One or more of the 8 outlet valve packings is worn out and is leaking. It would be best to go through the entire pump while you have it out.

The best and easiest way to pull the hydraulic pump is to remove the 4 bolts that hold the front end to the frame rails. Once the front end is out of the way, you will see how easy the hydraulic pump comes out. BE SAFE--USE SAFETY STANDS AND MAKE SURE THE FRONT END OF THE TRACTOR IS WELL SUPPORTED BEFORE YOU CRAWL UNDER IT.

from the way you describe it,your leak would not be on the seal side of the pump unless it is leaking between the engine and the pump and coming out around the drive shaft.if it is the seal,im pretty sure you will have to remove the pump and to do that you have to remove the front axle and take the pump out from below.if the leak is coming from farther to the pump! there is a small plastic line that runs from the pump to the steering motor which may be leaking.
