Gerry,

One way of getting a lot of opinions quickly is to do a search of the site. You can dig up the wisdom of the ages -- or at least the past 3 or 4 years. The 1050 is Yanmar made, I think. So you might also want to search the today's tractor board.

Here's a sample of a post from '99. Like most machines, you'll see strong and weak points.

"I had a JD 1050 for five years. It was a 1985 4x4 model with a JD 70 loader, 2100 hours when I bought it. I used it to clean turkey coups and for misc. around the house. Good tractor for the most part but some of the things I had trouble with are; Clutch, (especialy the pto half)I think this is the weakest part. Front drive shaft CV joint, several times the balls fell out of the joint, I just put them back in and was good for a while. Leaks from the front of the transmission.(twice). I also thought the hyd. were slow.
Good Points; Very versital. Always started, even in 25 below when plugged in for a couple hours. had a strong 3pt. lift."
