My father has a 4020 propane that appears to be a utility type tractor (a little lower and shorter than a standard 4020). don't know the year, but it is an earlier serial number (90,000??) Are these a rarer tractor? Anybody have any info on numbers produced, etc?

thanks!

Gary

What is the serial number code: A 4020 would have a number something like: 2X2R88500R. The important number, for you is the one in the location "X" of my example. If the number in the 2nd position is a "1", it is a row crop. A "2" indicates a standard. A "4" would indicate a row crop utility tractor, and it would likely be a RARE tractor.

The third number in the code should be a "2" if yours is indeed propane. A "3" indicates DIESEL and a "1" indicates GAS engine. The first number in your tractor's sn should be a "2" (indicating 4000 series)

Some early, 1964 tractors could have a different designation code.
