Is My JD60 Steering Gear Wrong?

The gear turned by the steering worm has two stops on it to prevent turning more than 90 deg. in either direction. My problem is the gear will not line up parallel to the front wheels. When fitted to the splines it is off. The steering is 45 deg right turn and +90 left turn. Could I have a wrong gear? I think I have to torch off a stop so I can turn sharp.

The spindle on which the steering gear installs has a six-spline end. Someone may not have paid attention when putting it back together and the "timing" is off. Remove the bolt that holds the gear onto the spindle and jack up the front end a little so you can get the gear loose and re-position it. With the wheels straight, the stops on the steering gear should be aligned parallel with the tractor hood. May have to heat the gear a little to free it from the spindle.

I had the gear off but it won't fit parallel. The splines either fit too much one way or the other. My I&T shows the steering rod at the roll-a-matic is rivited so it doesn't look like I can make an adjustment there. If its not the wrong gear I am going to have to torch the tabs.
