Well, I overhauled the DLTX 72 Carb on my 60 and replaced everything, cleaned all the passages etc, everything looked great, put it on and it banged and popped and sputtered, so I checked the float and it was full of gas. Soldered it up fixed the leaks set the carb ro 1/2 inch from the top of the rim to the top of the float. put it on and it ran better, from idle to half throttle, after that it pops and bangs, and wide open its not good. Well ive done everything I can think of, at wide open , you can unscrew the drain and hardly any fuel comes out, and half to idle it will run out pretty good and steady. I adjusted it to where it would get more fuel, and nothing helps. I am getting good flow to the carb. I am now thinking abouut the elec system. I have new points condensor and plugs installed. I dont know if the timing is off, or if the spark advance isint kicking in or what. I need some help, so give me your 2 cents worth and ill give you a receipt. Thanks

Unless I read wrong he is opening drain valve while running. At full thottle gas won't run out. My suggestion would be a new condensor. Also would be leery of a soldered float. Gene

Eugene, youre correct, after re-reading it he was opening the drain at full throttle. Not much fuel will come out due to high internal carb vacuum at high throttle settings.

R-Man, if you open the carb drain & hardly any fuel comes out you have a fuel restriction either in the carb or before the carb.
~Seeing as you say you are getting good flow to the carb that leaves in the carb as the problem.
~Make sure the inlet screen isnt plugged & that the needle is attached to the float correctly with the little wire clip.
~You should have a pencil sized stream of fuel coming out the carb drain for at least 30 seconds, if you dont, find out why.
~Once you have good fuel flow & if it still doesnt run good under load then you will have clean the load jet side holes & load well fuel inlet hole & air bleed port to the float bowl & main well. [just cleaning those DLTX carbs with carb clean & blowing air through them wont clean the internal passages enough to make them function correctly.
~Set the float so it is level [top parallel with the bowl gasket casting]
~For initial start-up set the idle needle at 2 turns out from seated & set the load needle 1 turn out from seated..... ...

R-Man, after re-reading your post {thanks to Eugene}..[I mis-read it to begin with] no or not much fuel flow out the carb drain at high throttle settings is normal.
~It still sounds like a fuel problem, but also could be the coil as sometimes a bad coil will act like a fuel problem. Take an old spark plug & open the gap to about 1/4" then install it in a plug wire & lay it on the block or frame & crank the engine, if a BLUE spark jumps the gap your coil is [probably] ok. If yellow or won't jump the gap multi times in a row suspect the coil or even the condenser.
~You might even try running it on one cylinder while you check the other as that will show the running spark & let the coil operate on lower voltage if it has a resistor in the coil feed wire.
~If the spark is blue with it cranking & yellow with it running suspect a 12 volt coil on a by-pass resisted system. [run 12 volts to the coil to see if that helps the runability].
~Does running with the choke on, or 1/2 on make a difference how it runs? If so suspect the carb.
~Does turning the load screw all the way in or out effect the way it runs? If not suspect carb.

Clooney, at WOT you can pull the choke all the way closed and it doesnt help, nor at half closed. It really pops and bangs, and it doesnt black smoke either. I am going to go into the electrical system and see what happens. It sound slike the carb may be ok, although I am thinking it is still a fuel problem I do not know what to do about it, but try the electrical. Thanks,
R-Man

R-Man, if the ignition system is acting up you will usually get some black smoke due to unburned fuel due to the lack of spark.
~If pulling the choke won't make black smoke when at fast idle you are probably fighting a fuel flow problem or internal flow problem to the load well [if you have the extra little fuel hole going into the load well it is probably plugged with rust]
~Send me your E-Mail address & I will send you a picture of the carb passages that need cleaning.....
