Anyone know where a poor ole country boy could find a valve and breakaway coupler for a 4020 to add on and make dual hydraulics out of it that don't cost an arm and a leg? Anyone know of any wrecking yards in north central texas around the Sherman or Gainsville area? Need help finding these parts but not in a super rush as can be southern engineered temporarily. Thanks!

I want to thank all for the help and replies to the post. I do appreciate it very much but just to save everyone some time. I have made the conversion before on the other 4020 I had so I have the procedure down. I just need to know of a low priced(thats a laugh) valve and coupler. I am going to do some southern engineering on it so I can get the dual hyd. at least temporarily and who knows I may like that better? I know it would be cheaper that way. Once again, thanks to all, not trying to be unappreciative as I do appreciate the information. Thanks again!

Not sure I can help you as to where you can get the parts (especially for less than 1000 USD). I got mine off of an auction for 360USD. It came with everything needed to add on to a 3020. I was able to retrofit onto my 3010, but had to drill and tap two holes in the rear to bolt on the quick couplers. The parts included the quick coupler (cost you about 500 USD if you buy a rebuilt without core), the valve (again about 500 USD if you buy a rebuilt without core), the lever (for up on the dash), the extra long bolt and space for the lever (both levers on dash held by one bolt), the extra long bolts to bolt the valve to the bottom of the existing one. I also had to modify under the dash (behind the electrical panel) a plate that was used to hold the hydraulic lines for the 3010 style (smaller hydraulic lines). I cut a groove in the plate so the 3020 lines would fit. If I had to do it over again, I would have skipped using the steel lines and just used two new hydraulic hoses (less monkey business). I believe that if you used hydraulic hoses, you could probably use the second hydraulics from either a 4020 or a 3020 and get it to work on your 4020 (only real difference should be the length of the steel lines from dash to back of tractor). Don't have my manuals for my 3010 and 4020 to compare part numbers to verify. Good luck.

Hey gy3020:

Tell me more about your new purchase! I just bought one a month ago and am re-painting it and am going to use it for some farm stock tractor pulling. Mine is a 1967 row crop diesel and is loaded with options except for the power-shift tranny. What's yours like?

John

Ok, lets see its a 65 model 4020, diesel, wide front, 16.9-34 rears and single hydraulics, has a Deere 48 loader on it that is tapped into the hyd. supply on the right hand side of the dash support. Paint is in pretty good shape and hood does not have a dent in it that I have seen so far. Fenders are in real good shape and 2 of the lights actually work, that really surprized me! Loader works great, my first one and I'm tickled to death about it. Came with a bucket(5') and a bale fork(est. 350.00 or 400.00) and it looks good as well. Rear tires are not far from being new and front tires are in good shape too. All in all I think I have made a real good find. Pulls my 530 Round baler just fine and am looking forward to pulling the 1380 Deere hydroswing with it(soon as I get some dual hyd rigged up). This thing makes my 3020 jealous I think?

I've got one that works off 12volt electric that
came off a 4020.Two hoses plum off the tractor, and
go to the hydraulic block.I used it for a second
valve I needed for a batwing mower. Most JD dealers
sell them. I'll take $200 for mine.

Any of the major parts yards ship, The UPS charges shouldnt be too awful bad. You will need the second control valve, spacer plate, bolts, lever, spacer and linkage as well as the breakaway. The steel lines may be replaced with hoses. Your other option is an electric splitter that plugs in to the breakaway and gives you 2 functions by flipping a switch and operating the remote lever. The original parts or the splitter are both priced about the same $650-$700.
