This is my first time on this forum, and was curious about how many ponies is a JD "R"? I pulled against one last night at the Red Power Round-UP, and beat him by 60+ ft, with my Farmall 450. My tractor is completey stock,(actually alittle below, as I dyno'ed only 44, and 49) I am not cutting on the green stuff at all, I am just curious, because the "r" seemed awfully large. Thanks for any help

A stock R with 46 drawbar HP and the fast stock 2.12 mph 1st gear would run out of HP on a power track in the 10,000lb class. The R's replacements had 62 or more drawbar HP and an optional creeper 1st gear. It's alway intersting to note how even several identical model number tractors on the same track in the same class will pull much different distances.

Scoob... Pulling has a lot more variables than just HP. It depends on how the R finished.. If he ran out of power, or just spun out. The R's are heavy in the front, and if the sled didn't have much down force his weight from the front of the tractor didn't transfer to the rear wheels for traction. If he ran out of power.. you could have out geared him or just had more HP... Good luck pulling.. its all about the fun.. no mater what color your steer.... JDGnut

Don't know if it was the same "R" but the Dyno board showed an R turning 48 HP Sat. about noon at RPRU. That's I think exactly what they were Neb. rated at. REAL heavy tractor for their HP... Plus most had a set or two of wheel weights hidden on the back wheels too. I grew up outside the Quad-Cities in IL. on some clay rolling hills... Dad's R He had for a few months was at best a 3-14 bottom tractor... 4-14's in stalk ground... The 450 gas He bought the next year would run 4-14's ANYWHERE in 3rd. Needless to say, the R would run a LOT longer on a tank of fuel than the 450 would on a tank of gas....But fuel and farm tractor gas was about 18-20 cents/Gal. back then!

Jody, I figured that I couldn't just get an honest answer, without offending you green folks. Why do you guys have to be like that, while you are comparing not so comparable tractors, how about you hook up your830 to my buddy's FARMALL 806 I just had a simple question, in the first place, but I should have known that I couldn't talk to you on the same level...

Relax - i own farmalls and case tractors also. Just light humor. Go buy some other brands of tractors and maybe you won't be so sensitive.

45 horsepower drawbar. Sounds like it should have been more even a match. Guess there are a lot more factors than just horsepower.
Johnnypopper.com has the HP for all 2 cylinder jd with a bunch more info. if you are curious.

Maybe you want to pull against my 830?
