I am getting so frustrated. Put the governor back on the '44 A, sealed the gasket, and bolted it down. Now I can't get the old bearing cone off the left hand end of the governor shaft, so I can put the expensive new JD bearing assembly (which includes the cone)on the thing. I have pulled and heated, lubricated and tapped.....NOTHING. Can someone please help me with some advise? I am getting so frustrated!!!

John, I don't know why you reinstalled the governor before attempting to install the L/H bearing but it will be difficult to remove that bearing while the shaft is still in the governor if it is tight on the shaft.
~I have been able to get those bearings off using a good 3 jaw puller but a press works better.
~If you can reach in & unbolt the fork from the fork shaft you should be able to get the governor shaft, gears & weight assemble out the L/H side. Be careful that you drop the screws down into the engine or strip the screw heads. You will have to remove the mag or dist to get the shaft back in.
~I have in the past used a die grinder to grind slots in the inner bearing race to allow a puller to get a good hold on the inner race, but I caution you about attempting that while the shaft is still in the governor as the grinding dust & particles will contaminate the governor & engine & future problems are almost certain.
~While I haven't ever done it, maybe a couple of spots of weld on the sides of the inner race will allow a puller to grip it better.....
