Hi, I just purchased a J. D. iron Tractor Seat off of an Action site. If has the year 1847 stamped in the metal and also the letters J D and a four legged dear. The seat is in good condition and I was wondering what tractor this came off of and the value? David

You may disagree with me, but that looks to me more like brass than iron?

I hate to break this to you, but this topic has been brought up many times recently. If the seat has a real ugly deer on it that is running from left to right, the seat isn't a real JD piece and isn't worth much at all. These are cheap, overseas made reproductions of something that was never made. There have been a lot of them sold and purchased, and the truth is that you probably have underwear that are older than that seat. 1847 was not a special year in John Deere history, and Deere never even produced anything that would require a seat back then. With the deer running the wrong direction and a J and D on there instead of the linked JD or John Deere etc, I would assume they're not violating any copyright or trademark laws or patents either. Anything licensed to be produced by Deere will have it noted somewhere on the piece, as Deere is very serious about protecting their image and trademarks, especially the way the collecting of JD memorabilia has taken off recently. I won't ask what you paid for it, but it's not worth much except as a conversation piece and possibly a reminder to not assume a piece is worth anything just because it has some JD related items on it.
