While installing new governor weights in the '44 A, I noticed that the fan drive pinion gear and the bevel gear at the end of the fan drive shaft do not seem to mesh. In fact, with the governor case removed from the tractor and tipped upside-down, those two gears don't even look like they are going to touch each other. Is this something that will come together when everything is put back together, or is this something I need to deal with right now, prior to putting things back together? Please help.

John, the cover on the L/H side of the governor must be on & shimmed correctly before the fan gears will mesh correctly.
~The gasket(s) under L/H governor cover & between the fan shaft & governor are actually shims that control the fan gear to governor gear backlash & engagement.
~When the [used] gears are set correctly the heels [back edge of the gears] should line up on both gears, & depending on the wear & tooth integrity should have about 1" backlash measured at the tip of the fan blade..
