hey guys, I have the opportunity to buy a 430 with an adjustable wide front axel. the paint on the tractor is rough but it runs good and there apears to be no rust. it would be used mostly for parades after it gets fixed up. What is a good price to pay for this thing. its a 1960.

thanks, josh

P.S. what are some of the problems that are associated with a 430

Just saw a 1960 430W sell today at an auction for, I think, $5,600. It was unrestored and in average shape at best. I thought the price was pretty high compared to ads I've seen in Green Mag.

Deereman, the price question can cover a wide span, from $700 for a parts tractor to $30,000 for a 430V. (just saw one today priced that in Green Mag.) You don't say what model ie: T,W,S,C,V,H,LP. The 430 is my favorite and I keep one in the restoration process at all times.Just finished one and sold it a couple of weeks ago. The most common problems with the 430 is the leaking powertrol lift. Usually they leak at the rockshafts and at the control levers. This can be fixed by overhauling the lift unit, about $150 will buy all the seals, o-rings,gasets, ect. Other common problems is a cracked head and gear noise, the gear noise can be overlooked if it is not excessively loud. This is the result of 50 years of gear wear. I have tried replacing ALL the bearings but still have the noise. But over all they are great little tractors and many are still in use and will compare with the new models or actually beat them in performance in the field. My son has a new 4600 4WD cost: $20,000 and I can outpull him with any of my 430 models.
