Just doing a test to see how many 4020 adn 3020 drivers we have out there. Waiting on my new toy to arrive(65 model 4020 with 48 loader on it) and thought it would be fun to see just how many of us are still putting these old work horses through their paces. My 3020 is a 64 model, both are wide front, diesel, 3020 has dual hyd., 4020 will have dual hyd. in addition to the valve running the loader.

WEll, guys the 4020 got here about 4 this afternoon. Spent the afternoon getting the baler monitor and other things checked out on her. I do belive a new wiring harness is in order. Don't know what this ole boy was doing? Too cheap to fix it right I guess? The tractor sounds good drives good and the loader is great(JD 48 in case I didn't mention that). Came with a bale fork that would go for $400 bucks easy, nice bonus! I'll let yall know how she handles the JD 530 round baler as soon as I can get her to the field, wouldn't you know it we had a storm come through north central Texas this evening. Take care and yall keep those posts coming in.

With all the good 20 series JD's out there this sight could go on forever. I have a 1968 4020D wide front with cab and less then 6000 hours. Acts like it is barely broke in. Also I have a nice 4520 power shift with cab. The two 4620's I use give me a choice of weather conditions. The one has the roll guard cab and the other has axle duals and no cab. I would be willing to sell one or two of these machines since I have cut back on my farming. If anyone sees something they like call me.1-306-873-5249.

I bought a 68 4020 with wide front and syncro this spring with about 7,000 hrs. What a great tractor! It's nimble enough to use for almost everything. I've had more people tell me that it's "one of those tractors that lasts forever". The local John Deere dealer says he still has people comming in wanting to buy a new 4020.

We farm with four 3020's. Three wide fronts one of them having a 48 loader. The other is a narrow front. We also have two late model 4020's. Both have wide fronts. The one is a 1972 model in mint condition with very low hours. He also have an early model 4000.

I grew up on with a '68 4020D with Syncro-Range, WF and RollGard/canopy. With the exception of a little Oliver 550 (another well made little classic) for odds and ends, raking, it was the only tractor we owned. Both those tractors still do everything that needs done. I'm looking for a 4020, maybe 4320 now for my son. I thought we ought to look at some newer models - after all there isn't that much difference in price. There was never a question in his mind - a 4020 was what he wanted. Smart kid - after looking, the newer stuff just doesn't have anything substancial over old reliable.

Have one of each , both Diesel PowerShift wide fronts 1964 models and both have M&W turbos on them . The 4020 has the M&W pan and fan shroud kit also . Bought the 3020 in 1971 with 1200hrs on it used it for planting , baling , chores and had a NI mounted picker with sheller and grinder attachment . Up until the late 70's we put 100hrs each fall on it picking seed corn after that until a couple yrs ago didn't do mush with it . Last year I put a 48 loader on it , the wide front and the turbo . When we bought the 3020 we had a '67 & 68 4020D , dad and I each had one traded them in the '70's for 30 series . Mine was a syncro dad's was powershift foth had cabs wf , dhyd and mine had a turbo on it . After a few years without a 4020 I just had to buy another that's when I got my present one . In 1984 I found this nice old '64 with some scored pistons . I fixed her up with some parts I had around here , put the M&W stuff plus some other goodies on her . These old tractors don't get the hours the others get but they run more days/year than the big ones do . The 4020 sprayed 1600 acres so far this year , use it for chore tractor , grinding feed , spreader , haybine , 10" auger in fall 100,000bu and many more things that it is handy for . Also did a lot of farm stock pulling with it over the years , it'll put out a little over 200hp wide open , run it 125hp rest of the time . Also use the 4020 on a 15ft Bushog have lots of roads and timber to mow . In my opinion these old 20's are about the handiest tractors anybody ever built . Look how many are running today 35+yrs later . Will these new ones be running this good when they are that old ??? I call the new 6&7000 series 4020 WANABEES . As long as I'm around the 3020 & 4020 will be . Jim

We have 3 4020's a 66, 67, and 70. We have 2 3020's a 64, and 65. A diesel, powershift is the only way to go. One 3020 has a synchro range and one has a narrow front. They are about my favorite tractors.

I run a 72 4020 every day mostly cutting hay matched to a Heston 9 ft 1007 disc mower. This 4020 runs every day and I average 70 to 1150 acre's a day at times. She's turbo'ed open station, console type. Occasionally she gets to pull the Deere 702 hay rake when our Doots Allis craps out. Real rare a cutomer will want square bales and its me and the 4020 pulling the New Holland 273 hayliner, 1000 or more bales a day.

The 4020 made Two-Cylinder's top ten collectable list among all the great two cylinder tractors. The 4020 was the only non two cylinder to do this. The respondents stated the 4020 was the possibly the best made by anyone at any time. Very strong words.

70 4020D WF w/SR. My late father bought it new and worked it HARD row-crop farming. He overhauled the engine in 79. I continue to use it several times a week as main workhorse in a cattle operation on the same farm. Love it. It'll probably be around the ole farmstead when I exit.

We don't have them anymore but when Dad was farming, We had two 4020s and a 3020. Both 4020s were wide front diesels with syncro range transmissions. One was a 1966 and the other a 68. The 3020 was a tri cycle power shift with a gas engine. Dad bought it used so I'm not sure of the year. The 68 4020 was traded for a used 5020 in 70 which was traded for a 4620 in 72. I haven't driven a 4020 in years but would be willing to take a test to drive yours.HJ

I have two 4020's- a '64 model and a late '71 with a factory cab. Both are diesels. They have been my workhorses for many years and will continue to be for many more. Both have been running at 125-130 h.p. for several years, non-turboed. They have embarrassed newer and bigger iron many times! Mike

Hi Guys:

I just purchased a 1967 4020 diesel about 5 weeks ago. It's a widefront, dual hydraulic, syncro-range, with rollbar and canopy. I work on a dairy farm but don't farm myself. My boss has a 3020 and 2 4020's. Mine is being repainted and is going to be used for collecting and some farm stock tractor pulling. Hopefully it will get to farm in the future.

John
