How much oil does it take for a John Deere 3020 for the hydraulic system? Each time I hook up or disconnect hydraulic hoses I lose oil. Nothing is showing on the stick under the seat so how much will it take to register? The cultivator lifts ok. Thanks

System capacity is 8 gallons for a synchro-range and 11 gallons for a power-shift. How much oil will be required to fill the reservoir depends on how low it is. The charge pump draws off the bottom of the reservoir, so the oil level could be pretty low and the system will still function fine. I would say that you'll need at least a gallon or two if it's not on the stick at all, and possibly more. I also recommend getting the proper operator's manual for your tractor, as all the pertinent service info is in there, including fluid capacities and service intervals. Your local JD dealer can get you all the books you need, including parts and service manuals.
