Was mowing hay with my 3020 Friday and noticed oil pouring from under the dash. Thought it was the T fitting's o-ring needing changing, no such luck. Turns out its the joint where the top part that the steering column is in and the valve meet. Anyone ever overhaul one of these bad boys. Got hay on the ground and am looking for another tractor if I can get the financing. Dad is just too dam tight and dead set against me doing what I like to do too help me. Thanks!
Gary

I just wanted to reinforce what Don said, this is not something you want to tackle yourself. I would also make sure that the dealer you take the valve to has a method for testing the valve before reinstallation, unless you elect to have them remove it and fix it. I have seen these valves malfunction even after being rebuilt by seasoned pros - the clearances and proper assembly are just that critical, and you can end up with some real screwy steering if it's not right, or no steering at all. We can hook the valves up when we're done and test them before we reinstall them. It saves a lot of work removing and reinstalling if something isn't right. Now you understand why Deere went to the steering block and gear metering unit in the later 30 series tractors on up. That little block under the hood does everything the assembly in your tractor does and seems to give a lot less problems. Good luck with your tractor.

Thats not a job for an amature. The valve must be torn down from the bottom up. The valve settings are .001 and .025 and must be set with a special tool as well. Take the valve out and to your dealer. Don
