I have a 430 TW (Tricycle with Wide Adjustable Front). The serial/model plate is missing. I purchased it to dress up some land.
Being inquisitive I purchased several JD books. After tearing into the front end I discovered that it is a TW.
My questions are:
1. What was the purpose of JD building a wide front from a Tricycle type unit ??? Didn't the Hi Crops and other Adjustible units fit the needs ???
2. Why is the Wide Front of the Tricycle units of less value than the regular Two Wheel Tricycle ???

The wide fronts were an option for 2 reasons. 1)More stability and 2) working bedded crops where a tire in the middle of the tractor would not work b/c it would roll over the bedded crop. The standard 40 would not adjust out on the rear so the only option was either a highcrop or the "T" with a wide front. If u didn't need the high crop there was no point is shelling out the extra money.

It has been my observation that anything with a wide front has a higher value than tricycle. A 430TW with an original wide front would certainly be worth more than a 430T because if production numbers. However it all depends where you are. Here in the Maryland peidmont, people generally want wide fronts because if the hills.

barry:
I thought that:
"T" stood for Tricycle
and
"W" stood for Wide !!!!
I still would like to know why JD built a wide front from the Tricycle units !!!!
