I have a 430 TW. I am cleaning it up and preparing to perform minor repairs and painting. While I have the brakes apart I need to know what is the minimum recommended thicknesses of the brake disk should be. I have the JD Service Manual but have not been able to locate this concern.
Can anyone advise ???

If you can see the grooves in the pads your all
right, but you can check against a new pad at
JD.

I can't answer your question. I just replaced what really looked like worn out disks in my 420 W. Don't know exactly how your brakes are confiugured, but it sounds like they are dry. If so look for a drain hole in the brake assembly area that has probably been clogged up for a decade or to. On the 420 W this hole is supposed to drain out all the goo before it gums up the disks. If this is your case, I would recommend running a drill or whatever through the drain hole to get back to draining.

My brakes were not wet or oily. Cobwebs and other minor krap. The "T" series can easily drain out through the yoke adjusting and actuating access. I bead blasted the pads. They look fair. I prefer to check their thickness before I re-assemble to determine if I may need to replace. Thanks for the response.
