I have a 420 jd that will not idle unless the choke is pull out some. It runs fine at higher rpms. I have clean the carb several times with same results. I have new intake gaskets on the engine also. Can anyone help?

Tommy, your problem isn't fuel flow if it runs good at high RPM.
~You missed a piece of dirt or rust in the carb idle circuit or you have a vacuum leak at the carb or manifold gaskets or even the manifold itself. [my money is on a carb passage blockage]
~That TSX carb has small little restricted passages & they must be COMPLETELY open for it to function. Pay particular attention to the little passage that runs from the idle channel to the load jet chamber as it has a small restriction near the bottom, also make sure all the idle transfer holes are open.
~Make sure the throttle shaft seals are good also. ~Just squirting carb clean through the passages & blowing out with compressed air won't do the trick on a TSX idle problem. You also can't use a hard wire as that will distort the passage restrictions. I usually use a piece of multi stranded copper wire lamp cord & remove a single strand & try to work that through the passages.
~I'm not home at this time so don't have any manuals or carb pictures to send you. If you don't get it running correctly within the next few days, E-Mail me later in this week after Wednesday [to remind me, I forget easily] & I will send you a good picture of the inside of the TSX carb showing the passages..... ...

How does your precleaner bowl look? You may need to clean the bown and screen to let more fuel into the carb. What happeans if you don't use the choke? Does it stall?

I have cleaned the fuel tank and installed a new sediment bowl assembly, the filter fitting in the carb itself is also clean. if you do not pull the choke at low idle it will quit firing for a second and then hit a few times. it keeps this up unless you slowly pull the choke out some. then it will level out. anything above low idle say 1/4 throttle and up it will run and pull fine with out the choke being pulled.

I have the same problem with a 620. If the choke is not out a small amount, the tractor will die. My carb was cleaned by a shop but perhaps they missed something.
